Healing Images
Online Art Therapy & Counselling
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy using art-making as a non-verbal means of expression.
The emphasis is on self-expression, rather than technique, making Art Therapy suitable for all age-groups and capacities.
Art-making takes place in a safe, non-judgemental space in which the participant is invited to use any of a variety of art media.
Participants may make images to represent self, others, or relational situations in order to express emotions, to seek better understanding and explore their perceptions of troubling experiences or situations.
Because images are such complete forms of expression, any personal experience can be explored at great depth using art-making.
The process of making images externalises inner experience as an art-object, and this can change one's relationship to what is troubling.
I collaborate with participants to explore and understand the meaning content of the images produced.
Mindfulness is an integral part of Art Therapy. Both the process of making images and reflecting on finished images influence the present moment. Understanding this influence is central to the therapeutic effect in Art Therapy.
